About Me

Hi!  My name is Michelle and I am currently a fourth year student at the University of British Columbia. I am majoring in biological sciences and working towards my masters of business management under the B+MM program. In addition to that, one of my aspirations in life is to successfully complete the pharmD program and become a pharmacist in the near future.

Aside from my passion of becoming a pharmacist to serve the public, I also have an interest in business. I love interacting with people and listening to their stories because it is amazing how diverse and unique people can be.

Outside of school, my time is spent volunteering, working and exercising. I currently work at a pharmacy as an assistant and I learn anything from processing prescriptions, memorizing drugs to shadowing patient counselling; my passion for pharmacy grows with every hands- on experience I gain.  In addition to volunteering, I also waitress at a restaurant. Being the only waitress on my shifts, I am able to make improvements on my multitasking, stress management and effective communication skills through interactions with customers. On my free time, I like to keep a healthy life style by practicing yoga, attending fitness classes and dancing.

In the past, I have been on basketball, volleyball and track teams. As a result, I understand how hard it can sometimes be to balance school with extracurriculars. As a mentor, I can offer tips to help stay on track of everything.

In the near future, I hope to become more involved with medicinal research and establish a club catering to my areas of interest so that I can form a platform to share common interests with other students of UBC.

Transitioning from high school to university was definitely a scary and stressful process; there were so many questions I had but did not know who to ask. By becoming a mentor, I hope to help someone else through this process and make sure they don’t miss out on any opportunities. Please feel free to contact me as I can help guide you through this process and tell you what you can expect.

Who inspires you? What advice or insight did he or she provide you with?

There are many important people in my life who has inspired me in different areas of my life. Starting with my family, they have taught me many values of life; they are the ones that have created the supportive and caring side of me by always being there for me. Secondly, my boss from work inspires me to chase my own dreams. By seeing his success and how he got there, he is evidence that hard work really puts you where you deserve to be. Lastly, the friends I surround myself with are my inspiration to get up everyday and go to school to do what I love. They make my educational career possible to survive.

What are somethings you would really like to share with others?

I would like to share with others a piece of advice. Learning is possible anywhere and with anything. I would like to challenge everyone (including myself) to step out of their comfort zones and get involved. There is so much to learn outside of textbooks and classrooms even though those are really important too.

What are you passionate about?

As I have mentioned above, I have a huge passion for the field of pharmacy. Part of this burning passion is created through my personal experiences interacting with people from rural parts of different countries. I would like to use my knowledge as a pharmacist to effectively educate people about the importance of proper drug use. Aside from becoming a pharmacist, I am passionate about engaging in a healthy lifestyle. I love yoga and dancing. I am a contemporary dancer and used to be part of an intense dance company. After achieving my certificate in performing arts, I now just dance as a hobby on my free time.
